Blowdown
The blowdown separator has two primary functions. The first is to handle the bottom blowdown water coming from the boiler. A boiler valve allows water to drain out of the bottom of the boiler to clean out solids that accumulate in the boiler. If left in the boiler, these solids can cause corrosion and decrease the boiler’s efficiency. The water coming out of the boiler is dangerously hot. The blowdown separator contains the water until it is cool enough to discharge safely. The second function of the blowdown separator is to manage hot water at the top of the boiler. It keeps the boiler water within the specification limits to improve the boiler efficiency, improve steam quality, and reduce maintenance.
